My happy place is on a solitary road trip taking pictures.

As an extroverted introvert, I love my time alone and tend to steer away from crowds. If you are like me, you love to find the hidden gems, the quiet places, the solitary adventures. Sometimes to find the beauty, you have to sit for a minute and just look… what may seem boring and empty is actually full of life, when you slow down long enough to let it present itself. Besides my domestic adventures, I have been abroad to amazing places that include France, Mexico, Ireland, Bali and Southeast Asia.

Wanderlust at an early age.

My first taste of adventure came when I was a smaller version of me. When I was around 9 years old, I would get on my banana seat bike and explore my neighborhood, one street at a time, and would stop when the next street was new to me. I would find a landmark and remember it, and then the next time I went exploring I would find that place and go just a little bit further. I kept doing this until before long, I knew my whole neighborhood. Lucky for me I have always had a good sense of direction. Or did these excursions give me a good sense of direction?

In the meantime, my Grandpa and other shutterbugs in the family were teaching and inspiring me to shoot. When I was about 12, while on a family vacation in Maine, we stopped in Ogunquit at a photography supply store and I bought my first SLR, a beautiful Canon AE-1. I have been shooting for fun ever since. But it was really the advent of digital cameras that got me back into photography. When I tried the first Canon Elph right after it came out, I fell in love and jumped back into photography with both feet and a lot of excitement.

I caught the international travel bug after my first trip to Amsterdam in 2000. I got very lucky and was able to house-sit for a friend of a friend, so my accommodations were free. I had an amazing time, and even learned how to ride side-saddle on the back of a Dutch bike. Since then, I have been to Ireland, Scotland, four of the eight islands of Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, Tasmania, Bali, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. I have also been to 49 out of 50 states, including Alaska, which I had the good fortune to see in March of 2016. I am looking forward to my next few trips, which will hopefully be Italy and India. Stay tuned and find out!
